GemKrishna is an online-only business based in Delhi: every mala is hand-made to order there and shipped across India.

27, 54 or 108 counting beads, plus the Guru bead

A 108-bead mala completes 108 repetitions in one round, a 54-bead mala in two rounds and a 27-bead hand mala in four. The Guru or Sumeru bead is extra and is not counted. Every premium gemstone or Rudraksha you add takes the place of one counting bead, so a 108-bead mala always has 108 counting beads.

Choose Rudraksha by Mukhi, origin and size

Included 4, 5, 6 and 7 Mukhi Rudraksha cost nothing extra. Premium Rudraksha from 1 Mukhi to 21 Mukhi and special beads such as Gauri Shankar and Ganesh are priced per bead in the size you choose; others, such as Garbh Gauri, Trijuti and the highest Nepal Mukhi, are "Ask for price". Each shows its stated origin: Nepal, Indonesia (Java), India, Himalayan or Rameshwaram. Nepal beads are usually larger with deeper lines; Indonesian Java beads are smaller and lighter, which suits a 108-bead Rudraksha mala. Beads marked "Ask for price" are quoted on WhatsApp. You can also compare loose Rudraksha by origin, Mukhi and size.

Included and premium gemstones

More than 60 gemstones and beads are included in the price, from Amethyst and Rose Quartz to Tiger's Eye, Karungali and Black Tourmaline. Premium gemstones such as Ruby, Emerald, Blue and Yellow Sapphire, Hessonite (Gomedh), Cat's Eye, Irani Firoza, Opal, Natural Japanese Red Coral (8 mm only), Dyed Red Coral and cultured South Sea and freshwater pearls are priced per bead. You can make a gemstone-only, Rudraksha-only or mixed meditation mala.

Thread or capping

Choose a traditional thread mala, hand-knotted or unknotted, or have every bead capped and wire-linked in German silver or 925 sterling silver. German silver is a nickel-brass alloy and contains no silver; 925 sterling silver is 92.5% silver. Thread-only malas with Rudraksha can be ordered online; a capped mala with Rudraksha is quoted on WhatsApp.

Why does a jaap mala have 108 beads?

108 is the traditional number of repetitions in one round of japa. A 54-bead mala is used twice and a 27-bead mala four times to complete 108.

Is the Guru bead counted?

No. The Guru bead (Sumeru) is extra and marks the start and end of a round. It is made from one of your included stones.

Can I make a Rudraksha-only jaap mala?

Yes. Use the included 4, 5, 6 and 7 Mukhi Rudraksha, add premium Rudraksha by Mukhi, origin and size, or fill every counting bead with premium Rudraksha. For a Guru bead, choose one of the included stones, or choose a tassel without a Guru bead.

Which Rudraksha origins can I choose?

Each Rudraksha shows its stated origin: Nepal, Indonesia (Java), India, Himalayan or Rameshwaram. The price is per bead and depends on the Mukhi and the size you choose.

Can I mix several gemstones?

Yes. Choose up to 12 included stones and an arrangement, and add premium gemstones or Rudraksha if you like.

Can I order a capped mala with Rudraksha?

Thread-only malas with Rudraksha can be ordered online. A German silver or 925 silver capped mala with Rudraksha is sent to us on WhatsApp for a quotation with all your choices.

What is the difference between German silver and 925 silver capping?

German silver is a nickel-brass alloy and contains no silver. 925 sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver.

Can I order a mala without energisation?

Yes. Choose "No energisation" and we send your mala without energisation or pooja, at no charge.

Is GemKrishna a shop in Delhi?
