Quick answer: To buy a real silver god pendant or locket online in India, look for three things: a 925 stamp, a BIS hallmark with HUID, and the exact weight stated on the listing. At GemKrishna, our silver god pendants are 925 sterling silver, laser-stamped 925 and BIS hallmarked, shown in actual unedited photos with their weight stated accurately, energised by the traditional Vedic method, and shipped in premium gift packaging. We have more than 160 designs across Hanuman ji, Ganesh ji, Krishna ji, Radha Krishna, Shiv ji and Mahadev, Shree Ram, Maa Lakshmi, Maa Durga, Sai Baba, Tirupati Balaji, Khatu Shyam ji and more, from about ₹999 to premium 30 g+ pieces.
This guide covers how to tell real silver from fake, what each purity means, a deity-by-deity guide to our designs with prices, how to choose the right size and chain, gifting ideas, and exactly how every GemKrishna pendant is made.
How to check if a silver god pendant is real
- Look for the 925 stamp. Sterling silver jewellery is stamped 925, meaning 92.5% pure silver.
- Look for the BIS hallmark with HUID. A BIS hallmark carries a six-character HUID code unique to that piece. You can verify it on the government's BIS CARE app.
- Check the weight. Real silver is priced by weight. If a seller does not state the weight, you cannot compare prices fairly.
- Be wary of "silver-plated", "German silver" and "oxidised metal" listings presented as silver. German silver contains no silver at all. These are fine as budget options, but they are not silver.
- Do the magnet check. Silver is not magnetic. If a magnet sticks, it is not solid silver. (A magnet not sticking does not prove it is silver, so still look for the stamp and hallmark.)
925 vs 999 silver: which is better for a god pendant?
| 925 sterling silver | 999 fine silver | Silver-plated / German silver | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silver content | 92.5% | 99.9% | Thin coating / none |
| Strength | Strong enough for fine detail and daily wear | Very soft, bends and scratches easily | Varies |
| Best for | Pendants, lockets, rings, bracelets, chains | Coins and bars | Low-cost, short-term use |
| Hallmarkable | Yes | Yes | No |
For a pendant with a detailed face of Hanuman ji or Krishna ji that you will wear every day, 925 is the right choice. That is why all our god pendants are made in 925.
How every GemKrishna silver god pendant is made, step by step
- 925 sterling silver is used: 92.5% pure silver, the standard for fine silver jewellery.
- Designed by our own designer. Our SILVY by Poonam Gupta range is designed in-house by Poonam Gupta, who has more than 20 years of design experience.
- Crafted by our own karigars. Every pendant is made by GemKrishna's own large team of karigars with more than 40 years of experience, either handmade or cast depending on the design, with the deity's features finished by hand.
- Laser-stamped 925 so the purity mark is permanent and clear.
- BIS hallmarked. Our god pendants carry BIS hallmarking. For any other silver piece that is not already hallmarked, you can add a full BIS hallmark with HUID at checkout for ₹249 (shown as "Silver Hallmark (Tonch)"), which adds up to 2 days to delivery.
- Weighed accurately and photographed honestly. The weight is stated on every listing, most list the size, and the photos are actual and unedited, so what you see is what you get.
- Priced fairly. Our making charges are kept reasonable, and many pieces are priced by the day's silver rate.
- Energised by the traditional Vedic method. Before dispatch, pendants are placed before the deities at our mandir for pran pratishtha.
- Finished your way. Gold plating, rhodium plating and other finishes are available on request.
- Premium packaging. Every pendant ships in premium packaging, ready to gift.
- Shipped across India from Delhi via Delhivery, with partial cash on delivery (20% online, 80% on delivery).
- Looked after for life. We offer polishing, re-plating and resizing. Standard products have a 30-day return policy (return shipping paid by the customer; custom-made pieces excluded).

Choosing the right pendant
- For daily wear: choose a small, lightweight pendant (roughly 2 g to 8 g) with smooth edges.
- For men: Hanuman ji, Mahadev, Shiv Trishul Damru, Ram and Khatu Shyam designs are popular, usually in medium to heavy weights on a thicker chain.
- For women: Maa Lakshmi, Radha Krishna, Laddu Gopal and Maa Durga designs are popular, often lighter.
- For children: Bal Krishna Laddu Gopal and Bal Hanuman are gentle, small choices.
- By purpose: Hanuman ji for courage and protection, Ganesh ji for new beginnings, Lakshmi for prosperity, Krishna for love and joy, Shiv ji for inner strength, Sai Baba for faith and patience. These are traditional associations; most people simply choose their Ishta Devta.
Which chain suits a silver god pendant?
Match the chain to the pendant's weight: a light pendant sits well on a fine chain, while a heavier SILVY pendant needs a thicker box or Venetian chain. We make any chain length, and you can browse our 925 silver chains. For a pendant worn with a thread or mala, a Rudraksha or Karungali mala also works well. If you are unsure, send us the pendant you have chosen and we will suggest the chain.
Silver god pendants as gifts
A silver pendant of someone's Ishta Devta is one of the most personal gifts you can give. It is popular for Diwali and Dhanteras, birthdays, anniversaries, Raksha Bandhan and Bhai Dooj, Janmashtami (Krishna, Laddu Gopal), Maha Shivratri (Shiv, Mahadev), Hanuman Jayanti, Ram Navami, Navratri and Durga Puja (Maa Durga, Ambe Maa), Ganesh Chaturthi, griha pravesh and for a newborn. Every pendant ships in premium gift packaging. See our Diwali gift guide for more ideas.
How to care for a silver pendant
- Silver naturally darkens over time when exposed to air, sweat and chemicals. This is normal and does not mean it is not real silver.
- Remove it before swimming and avoid perfume and cleaning chemicals on the pendant.
- Wipe it with a soft silver-polishing cloth, and store it in a closed pouch or box when not worn.
- For a deep clean, polishing or re-plating, send it back to us.
